Synthesis and antiproliferative mechanism of action of pyrrolo[3′,2′:6,7] cyclohepta[1,2-d]pyrimidin-2-amines as singlet oxygen photosensitizers

A new series of pyrrolo[3′,2′:6,7]cyclohepta[1,2-d]pyrimidin-2-amines, was conveniently prepared using a versatile and high yielding multistep sequence. A good number of derivatives was obtained and the cellular photocytotoxicity was evaluated in vitro against three different human tumor cell lines with EC50 (0.08–4.96 μM) values reaching the nanomolar level. Selected compounds were investigated by laser flash photolysis. The most photocytotoxic derivative, exhibiting a fairly long-lived triplet state (τ ∼ 7 μs) and absorbance in the UV–Vis, was tested in the photo-oxidations of 9,10-anthracenedipropionic acid (ADPA) by singlet oxygen. Synthesis and Photodynamics of Fluorescent Blue BODIPY-Porphyrin Tweezers Linked by Triazole Rings

Novel zinc porphyrin tweezers in which two zinc porphyrins were connected with π-conjugated boron dipyrromethenes (BDP meso-Por(2) and BDP β-Por(2)) through triazole rings were synthesized to investigate the photoinduced energy transfer and electron transfer. The UV-vis spectrum of BDP β-Por(2) which has less bulky substituents than BDP meso-Por(2) exhibits splitting of the Soret band as a result of the interaction between porphyrins of BDP β-Por(2) in the excited state. <title>Iodine and bromine resonance lamps in atmospheric research</title>

For the first time previously developed iodine resonance spectra source has been tested in flash photolysis experiment. Quantitative measurements of concentration kinetics of iodine atomic species in a I2+O3 system are possible. The 183.038 nm resonance absorption transition of I(2P3/2) in previously developed EDL has been studied; dependence of self-absorption and self-reversal on iodine partial pressure in the discharge volume has been measured. Photophysical Properties of Oligo(phenylene ethynylene) Iridium(III) Complexes Functionalized with Metal-Anchoring Groups

[EN] The electrochemical and photophysical properties of a family of conjugated ligands and their iridium(III) cyclometallated complexes are described. They consist of a series of monocationic Ir-III bis-2-phenylpyridine complexes with p-phenylethynyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligands of different length. The structure of these ligands includes terminal acetylthiol or pyridine groups, which can provide good electrical contacts between metal electrodes. Cyclic voltammetry, absorption and emission spectroscopy, laser flash photolysis and density functional theory calculations reveal that the high conjugation of the diimine ligand affords small energy gaps between the frontier orbitals. Drug photoallergy is a matter of current concern. It involves the formation of drug-protein photoadducts (photoantigens) that may ultimately trigger an immunological response. Tyrosine residues appear to be key binding sites in proteins. The present work has investigated the photobinding of tiaprofenic and (TPA) and the closely related isomer suprofen (SUP) to proteins and cells by means of radioactive labeling and drug-directed antibodies. The photophysics and photochemistry of cofacial free base and metallated bisporphyrins held together by covalent architectures

Abstract This review focuses on the photophysical properties of bisporphyrin systems held in a face-to-face configuration by covalent bonds via flexible or rigid spacers and metal–metal bonds. The cofacial arrangement induces intramolecular bismacrocycle interactions promoting basic photophysical events such as excitonic interactions and energy and electron transfers. These events are relevant to mimic light harvesting and reactor devices known for photosynthesis in plants, and can be monitored by luminescence and flash photolysis methods.

High Yield Ultrafast Intramolecular Singlet Exciton Fission in a Quinoidal Bithiophene

We report the process of singlet exciton fission with high-yield upon photoexcitation of a quinoidal thiophene molecule. Efficient ultrafast triplet photogeneration and its yield are determined by photoinduced triplet-triplet absorption, flash photolysis triplet lifetime measurements, as well as by femtosecond time-resolved transient absorption and fluorescence methods. These experiments show that optically excited quinoidal bithiophene molecule undergoes ultrafast formation of the triplet-like state with the lifetime ∼57 μs. Abstract The 183.038 nm resonance absorption transition of I( 2 P 3/2 ) has been studied using a flash photolysis set-up for gas-phase chemistry and a radio frequency powered electrodeless discharge lamp filled with iodine. The dependence of self-absorption and self-reversal on iodine partial pressure in the discharge volume was measured. The optimum iodine partial pressure, with self-absorption minimized and acceptable intensity, is determined to be approximately 2.5×10 −3 mbar. A method is described to estimate the temperature of the emitting atoms using direct measurements of relative absorption at different absorber concentrations. The chemical fate of radical intermediates is relevant to understand the biological effects of radiation and to explain formation of DNA lesions. A direct approach to selectively generate the putative reactive intermediates is based on the irradiation of photolabile precursors.
